The Blue Peacock store at 264 Bay Road welcomed the newest member of its family last week, a large peacock named Penelope. Penelope is a standing topiary, a steel structure covered in moss that, over time, grows out into a specific shape. The artwork was bought from famed New Jersey-based charitable foundation of cigarette heiress and philanthropist Doris Duke.
"We were looking for something that was eye-catching, something that made a statement," Csongor said. "I think (the peacock) says it all. She's stunning and unusual."
Csongor said that the recent addition to her shop has already yielded some positive feedback.
"The day it went up was the busiest day for us," she said. "People just seemed to flock to the store. I really think she'll be a landmark here in Hamilton."
Csongor added that Penelope plans to brave the harsh New England winter and remain outside the store year-round.
"She symbolizes the type of product we have here. She's elegant, beautiful and she's a great accessory," she said.
