Germany US Nazi Commander-18 [Duplicate]

The June 3, 1944 photo provided by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Heinrich Himmler, SS Reichsfuehrer-SS, head of the Gestapo and the Waffen-SS, and Minister of the Interior of Nazi Germany from 1943 to 1945, center, reviews troops of the Galician SS-Volunteer Infantry Division. In June, an Associated Press investigation revealed that Michael Karkoc, who has been living in the U.S. since 1949, was a commander in the SS-led Ukrainian Self Defense Legion. The report indicated that Karkoc was in the area of massacres, but found no records linking him to atrocities. A newly unearthed investigative file reveals that a private under Karkoc's command testified that Karkoc ordered the assault on Chlaniow in retaliation for the slaying of an SS major, contradicting claims by the man's family that he was never at the scene of the civilian massacre. Karkoc became a member of the Galician division after the Ukrainian Self Defense Legion was incorporated into it near the end of the war.
