Panhandler charged with theft attempt
SALEM — A man known to Salem police as an aggressive panhandler with a sob story about a broken-down car tried to notch things up by grabbing for a woman's purse yesterday morning, police said.

Suspect ID'd, girlfriend charged in holdup
BEVERLY — Beverly police have charged the girlfriend of a man suspected in a $6,000 holdup last week, saying she stalled police for hours while her boyfriend fled.
The robbery, which police suspect was drug-related, was reported to police last Wednesday afternoon, about an hour after it occurred, prosecutor Jay Flynn told a Salem District Court judge. -
