SALEM — For a window into world cultures, look no further than Salem State College, which boasts 460 international students from 64 countries.

Some of those students will be hosting the 18th annual Cultural Night this Friday at 6 in the South Campus gymnasium, where students will prepare foods from their native countries, perform traditional music and dance, and put on a fashion show of ethnic costumes for North Shore residents to enjoy.

"We really want to involve the community, and this is one way of really understanding who we are," said Nelly Wadsworth, associate director for the International Student Program in the college's Center for International Education.

"We'll have music from different countries and a smorgasbord of food," Wadsworth said.

The buffet will be served between 6 and 7 and feature food prepared by the students — including a sushi station.

Art students from Saltonstall School designed a backdrop for the stage. Some professional groups will be performing, as well, including a Latin music band and dancers from Azerbaijan, China and the Philippines.

Local businesses made small donations to help purchase the groceries, including Citibank in Swampscott and Traditional Breads in Lynn, Wadsworth said.

"It's a good chance for the community to come meet us," she said.
