BEVERLY — Robert "Bob" Hobbs was named 2010 Senior of the Year last week at the annual Senior Day at Lynch Park during Beverly Homecoming.
Hobbs is the host of "Livin' the Good Life," a show on BevCam cable access produced by the Beverly Senior Center. Walt Kosmowski wrote in his award nomination that Hobbs has appeared in nearly 50 episodes of the show.
According to the Council on Aging, state Rep. Mary Grant told the audience of 500 seniors that Hobbs was "by far the most prepared host she has ever been interviewed by," combining knowledge of the issues with "a gift of gab."
Hobbs has lived in Beverly since 1992 and works part time at Henry's Market, the COA reported.
The award also recognized Hobbs' efforts as a gardener. One year, he planted and cared for a display of annuals at the senior center that won an award from the Beverly Horticultural Society. This year, Hobbs raised the beds and cared for the crops at the COA's garden plot on Cole Street. The harvest is now being shared with seniors and the Beverly Bootstraps food pantry, according to the COA.
