Samantha Way of Beverly had a terrific performance at the 30th annual Ice Skating Institutes World Team Championships recently at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough.
Taking part in a competition that featured over 1,400 skaters from across the United States and three foreign countries, Samantha — who will be an eighth grader at the Briscoe Middle School in Beverly this fall — captured two gold medals and one silver.
A member of the Cape Ann Figure Skating Club, Samantha beat out seven other competitors to win gold in her artistic program, skating to Barbra Streisand's version of "Somewhere." Later that day, she skated her freestyle program to "Phantom of the Opera" and again earned gold by beating out nine other competitors.
Samantha's silver medal was earned along with her sister, Kimberly, as they duo skated to "Me and My Shadow".
Both of Samantha's programs were choreographed by her head coach, Faye Greel, Samantha is also coached by Alisa Contreras.
Previously, Samantha had earned a bronze medal for her "Phantom of the Opera" program in January at the Bay State Games in Williamstown. That medal qualified her to skate next summer in the State Games of America held in San Diego.
