The Peabody Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed the Mack Realty Group, located at 41 Cross St., as a new member. The company is a professional management service that offers personalized real estate services. It is owned and operated by Wendy S. Mack.

North Shore residents Jurien Timmer, Tom Eddy, Ivy George and Clifford Rucker have been named to the Brookwood School Board of Trustees. Each will serve a three-year term on the board.

Timmer, a resident of Manchester, is the director of market research for Fidelity Investments. He is a graduate of Babson College. Timmer previously served on the school committee of the town of Lincoln and is currently on the vestry at St. John's Church in Beverly.

Eddy, a Manchester resident, holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia, a law degree from Duquesne University and a master's degree from Harvard Business School. He is the managing partner for Ludlow Partners. Eddy also sits on the Board of Visitors of Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh.

George, a Beverly resident, is a professor of sociology and social work at Gordon College, where she has worked for more than 20 years. Originally from India, George holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in social work from Stella Maris College in India. She also earned a Ph.D. from Brandeis and a master's degree from Harvard Univesity.

Danvers resident Rucker is a graduate of Tufts University. He has worked in commercial real estate development and founded NEXL Network Systems, a provider of IT products and services. The company was recently sold to Northeast Region of MTM Technologies. Rucker also sits on the board of Temple Ner Tamid in Peabody.

All of the newly appointed board members are parents of current Brookwood students.

The Beverly Fire Department was recently presented with the Life Safety Achievement Award for the year of 2005 by the Residential Fire Safety Institute.

The Life Safety Achievement Award has recognized the local fire prevention activities that contributed to reducing the number of lives lost in residential fires. The Beverly Fire Department qualified for this award in the year 2005 because it recorded zero fire deaths in structures during that year. A total of 769 fire departments received the 2005 Life Safety Achievement Award.

Deputy Chief Wayne Francis is the head of fire prevention for the city of Beverly. He organizes several public education opportunities throughout the year. During Fire Prevention Week, several firefighters get into the local schools to deliver important fire safety lessons to the school kids.
