Richard Gayne of Marblehead has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter designation from The American College of Financial Services. To obtain the CLU designation, candidates must complete a program of study and testing and meet ethical and professional standards. Gayne works at The Prudential Insurance Co. in Wakefield.


Randi Holland, a resident of Peabody, has been named development officer at Northeast Arc in Danvers, a nonprofit agency that provides programs and support for people with disabilities. In her new role, Holland is responsible for event management, grant writing, public relations and the creation of a Speakers’ Bureau for the organization. Holland has a bachelor’s degree from Lesley University. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, the Peabody Rotary Club, and a board member of The Listening Place in Lynn.


Pingree School in South Hamilton has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the E.E. Ford Foundation to continue the transformation of the school’s traditional library into a state-of-the-art Learning Commons, which will house a writing center, peer tutor program, library, educational resource center and technology education. In February, Pingree personnel will host a conference called Learning in Commons, which will be open to educators and others interested in the new learning commons concept. David Weinberger, co-director of the Harvard Library Innovation Lab and senior researcher at the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet & Society, will be the keynote speaker.


Hathorne Hill, a 120-bed Genesis HealthCare rehabilitation and care center across the street from Beverly Hospital in Danvers, has received the 2013 Innovation Award from North Shore Elder Services. The Innovation Award recognizes creative and innovative programs benefiting older adults.


SmartBear Software, a Beverly software developer, has acquired Lucierna, Inc., an Italian company that provides application performance management solutions.


The 12th annual All Care “A Matter of Taste” fundraiser in November raised more than $90,000 to help support and care for patients and their families in the All Care Hospice program. More than 300 guests attended the fundraiser at the Danversport Yacht Club, which featured a wine tasting and auction.
