Landmark Elementary School counselor Dr. Amy Ballin presented a talk on “Emotional Challenges of Students with Language-Based Learning Disabilities” at Essex County Community Foundation’s Youth at Risk Conference, which was held at Endicott College. The conference was designed specifically for mental health counselors, teachers, school administrators, public health professionals, religious leaders, lawyers, police officers and juvenile court personnel.


Beverly resident Leslie Brennan has been promoted to the role of special programs supervisor at SeniorCare Inc., where she will oversee programs that assist the frailest of SeniorCare’s clients. Prior to her new role, Brennan served as a member of SeniorCare’s Adult Protective Services team. She holds a bachelor’s degree in human services from Fitchburg State University and a master’s in social work from Boston University. SeniorCare is the regional elder and disability service agency with offices in Beverly, Hamilton, Ipswich, Topsfield and Wenham.


Youvanny Fana of Salem was recently honored as one of “the one hundred,” Mass General Cancer Center’s annual fundraiser that honors 100 individuals and groups whose diligence and discoveries, philanthropy and passion have helped advance the fight against cancer. Fana is an oncology patient navigator at Mass General-North Shore Cancer Center. A native of the Dominican Republic, Fana is the advocate, interpreter and companion to many patients as they undergo treatment. Nominations came from sources across the country and around the globe for this year’s list.


Sara Maurno of Salem recently joined the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Salem. As a sales associate, Maurno will provide residential real estate services in Salem and throughout the North Shore. Maurno has extensive experience in social media networking, which makes her a valuable addition to the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage family. As a member of the Salem community, Maurno has been active in numerous organizations, including Salem GASworks and the Salem Theatre Company.
