Juli Lederhaus of the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem was named general manager of the year for a small property (up to 100 rooms) at the recent meeting of the Massachusetts Lodging Association. The hotel was awarded the association's Prism Award for diversity.

New business

The Salem School of Music was recently opened for classes at 3 Pleasant St. in Salem. It was founded by Steve and Jennifer Spungin, who also founded the Marblehead School of Music in 2007.
