Marblehead resident Lyn Kaplan was appointed to a five-year term on North Shore Community College’s board of trustees. Kaplan is a business performance advisor with Insperity. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and a master’s in education from Lesley University. She is the director of external affairs/president emeritus of the North Shore Technology Council and an advisory board member for The Art beCause Breast Cancer Foundation.

Julie Richard, owner and principal designer of Boston’s Shelter Interior Design, has joined Ace Hardware’s first panel of design experts. The panel, composed of three interior designers from different regions of the United States, will provide color and design inspiration for Ace shoppers.

Bobbie Bush Photography in Salem is raising money this month to benefit Operation Smile, an international children’s medical charity that treats children and young adults with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

As part of its annual “Pie in the Sky” fundraiser, the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Salem is selling Thanksgiving pies, which are prepared and donated by more than 150 Greater Boston restaurants and caterers, to benefit Community Servings, a nonprofit organization that provides free, home-delivered meals to acutely ill individuals, their families and their caregivers in 18 cities and towns throughout the state. Pie sales will continue through Saturday, Nov. 17.

Milestones

Lorraine Roy Designer Collections, a fashion boutique in Danvers Square, will merge with Bella Sera Bridal, a bridal shop on Route 114, effective Jan. 1. Lorraine Roy will move inventory to the Bella Sera store and sell remaining items at a reduced cost.

The School for Field Studies was recognized as a top program provider and among the top science and math programs in Abroad101’s second annual study-abroad rankings. The rankings compiled evaluations from students at more than 200 universities in the United States. SFS, based in Beverly, is the largest environmental study-abroad program provider for college undergraduates in the United States

North Shore Innoventures, a technology incubator and business accelerator, was awarded $88,000 from the Department of Energy Small Business and Clean Energy Alliance Partnership to provide incubation and specialized services to six of its member companies operating in the clean-tech marketplace. Innoventures operates technology business incubators to nurture innovative early stage companies. Member companies include Energy Compression, Save Energy Systems, Sol-Solution, Teleos Solar, TerraVerdae Bioworks and Vecarius.

The Marblehead Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its new member, J. Martin Furnishings, a consignment shop at 118 Washington St. featuring home furnishings, art, antiques, jewelry, and vintage and quality used pieces.
