MARBLEHEAD — Time to think about spring.
The Marblehead Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its 13th annual Spring Home & Garden Show on Saturday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marblehead High School, 2 Humphrey St. Chamber Director Ann Marie Casey points out that the high school is a new venue for the show and it offers some added advantages.
Why the high school?
It's a bright, sunshiny space. We'll be set up near the cafeteria with a bank of windows shining in. And we're partnering with the high school kitchen. So there will be a variety of good foods available.
Like coffee and doughnuts?
Oh, no. There will be a variety of snacks and drinks. The lunch menu, just the lunch menu, includes $9 lobster rolls, pizza, haddock chowder, cheeseburgers, salad-stuffed pita sandwiches, cookies, different drinks. On Saturday morning, we'll have bagels, muffins, coffee, juice and fruit.
For those who haven't gone in the past, what is the show all about?
It's a trade show with a home and garden theme. We'll have 40 vendors. And they'll talk about home improvements. People can ask about renovating their homes. Or improving their yards and gardens. The vendors will be there to answer questions, to educate people about everything from landscaping to home inspections to plumbing. And for some common questions, we plan on having "breakout" sessions in the auditorium.
It sounds like a great show for people with young families. But what do they do with their kids?
Oh, there will be plenty for the kids to do. The kids can get temporary tattoos. We'll have balloon twisting. And face-painting. Camden Painting will be letting the kids do some hands-on work planting flowers. It's a marvelous opportunity for them.
The kids will have fun.
Adults, too. We have entertainment planned for them. A DJ. A silent auction. The Veterans Middle School student choir is singing at noon Saturday. And they're very good. We'll have a raffle with a Wii as the prize. That's donated by Lafayette Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility, by the way. And it's a video game adults and kids would love to have.
How much will it cost to get in and see all this?
It's a pretty good buy at $2, and kids and seniors are free. We like to say, "Your home is your greatest asset. Invest in it." Well, this is a good investment of your time. And if anyone wants more information, they can go to marbleheadchamber.org or call 781-631-2868.
