Chamber to host Beverly Business Awards

BEVERLY — The Beverly Chamber of Commerce has a new executive director, a new office and a new event that will recognize some of the city's top businesses and business people.

The Beverly Business Awards will be held tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at the Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers. The evening will include the announcement of winners in six categories: Businessperson of the Year, Corporate Citizen of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Family business of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Executive Director John Somes said the chamber last held the event in the 1990s and decided to revive it this year.

"There's a lot of excitement in Beverly," he said. "We've been running a lot of events that have been very well-attended."

Somes was named executive director in April, and the chamber moved into a new office at the Cummings Center earlier this month.

Chamber of Commerce President Jason Maxwell, the president of MassPay Payroll Services in Beverly, said organizers are expecting more than 300 people to attend the Beverly Business Awards. Tickets are $65. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Greater Beverly YMCA Scholarship Program.

The keynote speaker will be Lou Imbriano, a former vice president and chief marketing officer for the New England Patriots and current president and CEO of TrinityOne, a marketing strategy and business advisory company. Attendees will receive an autographed copy of Imbriano's book "Winning the Customer."

Jo Broderick, dean of college relations and special assistant to the president at Montserrat College of Art, will be the master of ceremonies.
