Thomas Hart, a corporate human resources executive from Beverly, has been named to the board of trustees of Family Service of Greater Boston. Dennis Leonard of Peabody was recently named board chairman. The social service organization is now in its 175th year.

New businesses

The Beehive, a card and novelty gift shop, recently opened at 38 Front St. in downtown Salem next door to Roost, a home goods store. Both stores are owned by the husband-and-wife team of Jamie Metsch and Kate Leavy.

Milestones

Salem State College has a graduate certificate program in hospitality and tourism management, which can be completed in one year and covers such areas as hotel operations, food and beverage management, travel destinations, casino operations, and conference and convention management.

National Grand Bank of Marblehead was ranked among the top 200 community banks in the United States by US Banker magazine. The data was based on the performance of nearly 8,000 banks and thrifts with assets less than $2 billion. National Grand Bank was No. 127 on the list.
