Foote Brothers Canoe and Kayak Rental on the Ipswich River donated 50 full-day kayak passes, Bates said. Ipswich screen printer Jungle Inc. is donating sand dollar “winner” T-shirts. Every winner also gets two free passes to the Ipswich Museum, which Bates said has the world’s largest collection of paintings by American painter Arthur Wesley Dow.
When merchants got wind of the treasure hunt, they began calling Bates to offer items. The sand dollars themselves are a bit of a treasure, as they are a limited-edition token.
It’s not just an economic development tool, Bates said, but the economic activity the campaign may generate is a good thing.
”My thing is, the money is the embodiment of the energy,” Bates said.
