There's a new way to get the latest news and information from The Salem News.

If you have used a smart phone to check in on salemnews.com over the past few days, you may have already noticed we have an improved and expanded mobile website. If you haven't visited yet, please do: Go to salemnews.com, and the website will automatically be formatted to your phone.

The mobile site has the top news and sports of the day. You'll find breaking news there, as well, along with our opinion and obituary sections and links to resources mobile users will find useful.

Because you're reading us on the go, we've added up-to-date traffic, train and weather information. You can also find staff photo and video galleries. And sports fans can follow the action by clicking on the "Sports Live" link for the latest in-game updates and scores.

CASTING call

SALEM — Movies may or may not be interesting to watch, but watching movies being made is almost always dull.
That has been the experience of Ellen Talkowsky, who, as the main contact for the Salem Film Office, spent several days on the set of Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem" when it filmed here last year.

Greg Hochmuth has been hired by Hancock Associates of Danvers as the company's environmental manager and sanitary designer. Hochmuth is a wetland scientist, registered sanitarian and soil evaluator in Massachusetts and New Hampshire with more than 13 years of experience. He will oversee wetland and soils projects for Hancock's offices in Danvers, Marlborough, Chelmsford and Salem, N.H.

Key problem leads to radio, clock problems

Q: I could not get my car key into the ignition to start my car. AAA sent a key specialist who took the key assembly apart, and he eliminated the first three tumblers that were either bent or broken. The car then started minus the three tumblers.
Foreclosure activity edges higher in January

Banks took back more U.S. homes in January than in the previous month, the latest sign that foreclosures are accelerating after slowing sharply last year while lenders sorted out foreclosure-abuse claims.
