Wenham resident Kathy Schweitzer has joined J Barrett & Co. real estate as executive vice president. Schweitzer previously was chief operating officer of Coldwell Banker Schweitzer Real Estate, one of Michigan's largest real estate franchises. She also co-founded the Detroit chapter of Childhelp, which rescues abused and neglected children and raises funds for organizations.

January Gill O'Neil of Beverly was named an assistant professor in the English department at Salem State University. O'Neil will serve as a member of the writing faculty and executive director of the Massachusetts Poetry Festival. She has a master of fine arts degree from New York University. Her first poetry collection, "Underlife," was a finalist for both the ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award and the 2010 Paterson Poetry Prize.

Karen LaMarine joined Emmerton House in Salem as the new director, following the retirement of Marie Rodgers, who held the position for the past 22 years. LaMarine attended Salem State University and played semi-professional baseball for the North Shore Spirit's Women's League. Emmerton House provides temporary, affordable housing for women of all ages who work or attend school in Salem.

Cmdr. William Martin of Hamilton has retired from the U.S. Navy after 25 years of service. Most recently, Martin served as a Navy trial judge with the Navy and Marine Trial Judiciary, presiding over special and general courts-martial. He has held a variety of active-duty positions, and while in the Reserves he served as a trial lawyer and instructor at the Naval Justice School in Newport, R.I. He is now a civilian lawyer specializing in criminal defense with his own law practice in Wenham.

Phil Cibelli was named vice president and chief financial officer of Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston. Previously he was director of accounting for Northeast Health Systems. He has more than 20 years of experience in finance and accounting, and is a certified public accountant with an M.B.A. from Bentley University.

Martha Delaney of Salem has joined the Elder Service Plan of the North Shore and will serve in the Recreation Department at the PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) day center at the Cummings Center in Beverly. Delaney previously worked as a respite provider at Project Hope.

Kim Sandler of the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Topsfield, was ranked No. 1 in real estate sales for the TriTown region in 2011, according to the Multiple Listing Service Property Information Network. Sandler has been a sales associate with Coldwell Banker for more than 10 years.

Michael Newhall, chief advancement officer at St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, was recognized recently by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Newhall was given the Quarter Century Circle Award for completing 25 years of service to a nonprofit organization in the professions encompassed by CASE. During Newhall's tenure at St. John's Prep, the school's annual fund has grown from $100,000 to $1.3 million this year. The advancement team also completed three capital campaigns resulting in more than $30 million in new gifts and growth of the school's endowment from $500,000 to more than $9 million. Newhall, a graduate of St. John's Prep, recently completed a term as president of the Danvers Rotary.

Kitchen Tune-Up owners Matthew and Manuel Silva of Peabody attended the Kitchen Tune-Up National Reunion in Nashville, Tenn. Franchise owners from all over the U.S. and Canada attended the three-day training conference with sessions on commercial and residential sales, kitchen trends and product training. Kitchen Tune-Up is a franchise that specializes in kitchen and bath remodeling.

Milestones

Associated Home Care, a private-pay home care agency based in Beverly, earned reaccreditation from the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts. The alliance, which represents 190 home health and elder care agencies across Massachusetts, created an accreditation protocol to promote quality services, ethical business standards and superior employment practices in the industry.

Endicott College's Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies in Beverly is offering an Emergency Medical Technician program, conducted by Elite Medical Educators of Beverly. Participants are eligible for six academic credits.

The EBSCO Publishing Grants Resource Center has been established at the Essex County Community Foundation in Danvers. The center, in partnership with Associated Grant Makers and sponsored by EBSCO Publishing in Ipswich, is a research database for nonprofits seeking new funding sources through regional, national and international granting foundations. Access is provided free of charge to two databases with information on funders, foundations, corporate donors and grant-making public charities.

Health Quarters recently moved its medical office to 900 Cummings Center, suite 126-R, Beverly. The administrative headquarters remain at 19 Broadway. The new, modern medical office suite is handicapped accessible, can be entered from the street and has ample parking. Health Quarters provides affordable, confidential gynecology care, contraception, STD testing and treatment, breast and cancer screening, rapid HIV counseling and testing, and male diagnostic services.

Salem Five Bank and Stoneham Savings Bank's affiliation has been finalized by the Massachusetts Division of Banks, the FDIC and the Federal Reserve. Stoneham Savings Bank will operate as an independent subsidiary for the next several years and be known as Stoneham Savings, a division of Salem Five Bancorp. In 2015 the banks will fully integrate operations and consolidate into a single bank.

Giving

Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation recently made a $10,000 grant to establish the Young Entrepreneurs of the North Shore, a new initiative from the Enterprise Center at Salem State University. Targeted to business owners under the age of 40, the program's aim is to identify, support and encourage young entrepreneurs and, through the growth of their companies, to create jobs for others.

Beverly Cooperative Bank will sponsor the 35th anniversary performance of "Le Grand David and His Own Spectacular Magic Company" on Feb. 18 at the Cabot Street Cinema Theatre in Beverly. Ticket proceeds will be donated to four local nonprofits: the Greater Beverly YMCA, Beverly Bootstraps, the North Shore United Way and Beverly Hospital.

Addison Gilbert and Beverly hospitals in Beverly and Danvers have awarded $10,000 grants to DanversCares, Healing Abuse Working for Change, and Get Fit Gloucester. The Community Collaborative Grants seek to further innovative, community-based health programming in the areas of mental and behavioral health, chronic disease prevention and management, and improved access to health services and resources.

Beverly Cooperative Bank's Community Partners Program donated money to Harborlight Community Partners, Beverly Bootstraps food pantry and St. Joseph's Food Pantry in Salem. The bank donates annually to organizations providing essential services to North Shore communities.

Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Beverly held "Putting In The Park" indoor charity golf tournament, hosting 20 teams of four to play golf inside for a charity of their choice. The overall winning team donated proceeds to Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem in the amount of $2,000, and an additional $500 to the Fidelco Guide Dog Group.

Desneige Datillo, a nurse and acupuncturist and a member of Acupuncturists Without Borders, opened a free clinic for veterans at the Vittori-Rocci Post in Beverly. The which launched Saturday, Feb. 4, will be open every Saturday.
