New poll has Brown ahead of Warren

BOSTON (AP) — A new poll is showing just how volatile the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race is.

The UMass Lowell-Boston Herald poll of more than 500 registered voters shows 50 percent would vote for Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown if the election were today, compared with 44 percent for Democrat Elizabeth Warren.

That's just outside the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

Among likely voters, the margin narrowed to 49 percent for Brown and 45 percent for Warren.

A Suffolk University and WHDH-TV poll released Monday showed Warren favored by 48 percent of likely general election voters compared with 44 percent for Brown.

The UMass Lowell-Boston Herald poll was conducted Sept. 13-17 and began a week after the Democratic National Convention, at which Warren had a prime-time speaking slot.
