Salem High Athletic Director Kim Kochanek considers Kristin Wyke's position as an all-star soccer goalie to be a reflection of her personality.
"In the face of the financial difficulties occurring in Salem, Kristin is, instead, what we hope Salem is remembered for: its incredible students who put others — the team, their classmates, the community — before themselves, to create a vision of a selfless world of which we all desire, one day, to be a part of," Kochanek said. "She is the kind of student-athlete to whom teachers, coaches, other students and administrators turn when they need a proverbial 'save'."
Wyke stars on the soccer pitch, where she has been named to multiple all-star teams, and on the lacrosse field, where she has also been a two-time league all-star. She also ranks ninth in a class of 260 with a GPA of 4.176.
For the past two years, Wyke has served as Salem's MIAA Athletic Ambassador, and has captained a North Shore Medical Center Cancer Walk team since 2001. In addition to being named to the High Honor Roll for every quarter all four years of high school, Wyke has found the time to remain an excellent athlete, leader and volunteer.
