Kristina Davis, North Shore Tech - 2008 Salem News Student-Athlete Awards

Playing on a varsity team as a freshman can be an intimidating challenge. The intimidation factor grows exponentially when that varsity team is primarily made up of the opposite gender. Kristina Davis has lived with that challenge for the past four years playing for the boys soccer team at North Shore Tech. Instead of surrendering to the pressure, Davis embraced the opportunity to not only prove that she belonged on the team, but that she could thrive under the circumstances.

Davis, the No. 1 student in her senior class, who aspires to be an animation and illustration artist, was voted to the Commonwealth Conference's boys all-star team as a junior and was elected team captain as a senior.

"Kristina quickly established herself as an aggressive, highly-skilled player. She won numerous team awards and was selected as an All-Star," North Shore Tech soccer coach Robert Parsons said. "However, it was her development as a leader that is most impressive. She was selected to be captain her senior year, and while injuries slowed her a bit on the field, her leadership was superb."

Davis carries a 4.26 GPA and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society.
