Lexi Culkeen entered Bishop Fenwick with no track experience, never mind having any familiarity with the shot put. But by the time she graduates this spring, Culkeen could be the best the school has ever had in that event. Also a standout in field hockey, Culkeen has a full scholarship to College of the Holy Cross, where the track team's throwing program will be built around her. She will be a pre-med major.
Culkeen ranks in the top 10 of her senior class with a 4.25 GPA, and remains involved in the community. Culkeen has served in the Buddy Program, the Peer Leadership Program, the Outreach Program and Young Neighbors in Action, among other extracurricular activities.
Culkeen sets lofty goals both in the classroom and in athletics and has a drive not commonly found in student/athletes.
"She places very high expectations on herself and accepts those I've placed on her to join the ranks of our most successful athletes," Fenwick track coach Jay Smith said. "Lexi is acutely aware of herself and her potential, and she consistently seeks improvement."
