'The Boulders': Prides Crossing estate with land, privacy, expansive views

Peter Dorsey of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage presents an estate that is sure to please those who appreciate expansive overland views amid extensive grounds and secluded privacy. Perched atop a private hill on 11 exceptionally landscaped acres, this Prides Crossing gem has been artfully refurbished, seamlessly blending the charm of yesteryear with modern conveniences.

Affectionately named “The Boulders” for the remarkable rock formations surrounding it, this circa 1865 Queen Anne Victorian affords treetop and distant ocean views from different directions, including dramatic sunrises and sunsets. According to Dorsey, this home affords the best of both worlds. “It is one of those wonderful Victorian era houses where the Boston elite spent their summers. The house was totally renovated in the 1990s, but beautiful architectural features were preserved: ornate staircases with intricate banisters, a semicircular porch with decorative slats, a mix of fir and oak flooring, and decorative wainscoting throughout. What is unique about this home is that you have a sensible, contemporary layout within the framework of an imposing old Queen Anne Victorian.”

As a nod to its past, the house has 9-foot ceilings and wide open spaces ideal for hosting grand parties on the main floor. The living room is charismatic with a wood-burning fireplace framed by extraordinary tile work and a built-in window seat with stained glass above. The large and dramatic dining room, complete with rich cherry paneling and original brick hearth is spacious enough for large gatherings, while the music room with marble fireplace is more intimate. The kitchen, originally on the lower level and serviced by a dumbwaiter mechanical device, was moved to the main level and modernized with new appliances, upgraded cabinetry and granite counters.

Perhaps one of the more notable modifications to this home was the addition of a two-car garage with a sprawling family room above featuring soaring cathedral ceilings and walls of custom bookshelves. Above this level are three bedrooms, including the master suite with sitting room, powder room, his and her walk-in closets and a sumptuous bath with double sinks and a Jacuzzi-style tub. One flight up are additional bedrooms and another full bath.
