Jennifer Thall, a longtime Peabody resident, will appear in a new Fox reality TV series called "Masterchef," which premieres tonight at 9.
"I've been cooking gourmet food forever, just as something that I love to do," Thall said.
Thall is one of 50 home chefs nationwide who will compete in celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's culinary throwdown. Thall went to a casting agency last year to offer her services as a photographer, but when the agency saw photos of her food, they asked if she would like to be on "Masterchef."
Her specialty is chicken Florentine salad with garlic-lemon vinaigrette infused with pomegranate.
"My family's had it, my friends have had it, and before I went to do the show I did a giant test run on family members," she said. "They loved it."
In the first episode, contestants have an hour to prepare their signature dishes. The cream of the crop win the coveted white apron and move to the next round.

They're so money
The work of painter Michael Savageau and photographer Glenn Scott is on exhibit at Beverly Cooperative Bank, 254 Cabot St., through Aug. 19. Savageau takes inspiration from his martial arts training, painting "archetypal images ... that represent emotional states," he said.
Scott's photographs have appeared at various juried shows and gallery events. "I create photographs that I hope allow the viewer a singular, quiet moment of study," he said.
Both artists' studios are in Beverly.
