Spotlight on Broadway lighting

Ever wonder how Broadway shows have such magnificent lighting? Find out at 7 p.m. on Monday, when American lighting designer Donald Holder discusses Broadway theater lighting in the Rose Performance Hall at Endicott College’s Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts, 376 Hale St., Beverly. Holder will discuss how the entire mood of a show is created by the position, timing and colors of the lights. Holder has been nominated for eight Tony Awards and received the 1998 Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Best Lighting Design for “The Lion King.” He was awarded his second Tony Award in 2008 for the revival of “South Pacific.” He is currently the theatrical lighting designer for the NBC-Universal Television series “Smash.” Holder’s discussion is free. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit www.endicott.edu/centerforthearts, or leave a message at the box office at 978-998-7700.
