Scrabble tourney to help those in need

---- — Wordsmiths and gamers alike will go head to head Saturday in the 15th annual Scrabble Tournament to raise money for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The tournament begins at 10 a.m. in the lower church hall at St. John the Baptist Parish, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody. Contestants will play two rounds of Scrabble, with the championship round to follow. Winners will receive Scrabble-related prizes. Community members may make a donation or sponsor individuals with per-point pledges to benefit St. Vincent de Paul Society, an organization that assists those in need. Registration is $10 per player and includes lunch. Nonregistered players may purchase lunch for a fee.
