State Senator Joan Lovely will host a workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for any North Shore senior citizens, ages 65 and up, who would like to apply for reduced rate CharlieCards, which can be used for reduced fare travel on all Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority services, including buses, subway, commuter rail, and boat services. MBTA requires each senior to have his or her photo displayed on the reduced rate card. Lovely invites seniors to the Torigian Community Life Center, located at 79 Central St. in Peabody, to have their photos taken and apply for senior-rate CharlieCards. Seniors are asked to bring a photo ID that includes date of birth. Beverly Public Library's Monday Mornings lecture series kicks off with “The Beatrix Potter You Never Knew,” an illustrated lecture by speaker Betsy Bray on how Beatrix Potter overcame a strict childhood to become a woman ahead of her time. Light refreshments will be served between 9 and 9:30 a.m., followed by the program from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The event, which is geared toward older adults, will take place in the Sohier Room at the library at 32 Essex St. in Beverly.
