Best Bets for Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22

(Continued)

Accompanied by an orchestra, the Paul Madore Chorale performs “Stella Natalis” and “Joy to the World,” two contemporary works by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, at 8 p.m., at Sainte Anne’s Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem. Tickets cost $25 for general admission, $22 for senior citizens age 60 and over and students ages 18 and under. Tickets are available at the door. For more information, call 978-887-3298, 978-774-7981 or visit www.paulmadorechorale.org.

Sunday

The Stetson Art Gallery at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead is hosting a special exhibit through Dec. 31, which features the artwork of Salem State University visiting scholar Guanghui Xu. Xu's works range from room-sized installations to wall-hung paper sculptures to screen printed impressionistic works. While the size of Stetson Gallery doesn't allow a large installation, the selection of works on view demonstrates the range of Xu’s artistic expression. Everyone is welcome to attend the opening reception today from noon to 2 p.m. in the Stetson Gallery, 28 Mugford St., Marblehead. For more information, visit uumarblehead.org or email stetson@uumarblehead.org.

After having been postponed last weekend because of the snow storm, the Luminaria that was rescheduled for this evening has officially been cancelled due to a high chance of rain. But don't let this dampen the holiday spirit as Christmas caroling will still take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Greenlawn Cemetery Chapel, 57 Orne St., Salem. The holiday get-together and sing-along includes refreshments, and everyone is invited. Carolers are asked to bring cookies, a flashlight and a singing voice.
