This afternoon, head out on a search for trail-side daffodils during the Danvers Bi-Peds' monthly walk. Meet at 1:30 p.m. at the access at Cabot and Coolidge roads in Danvers for a walk that will lead you along the Danvers Rail Trail south to Tapleyville Ice Cream and back. The group will pause at the 2.5-mile marker to thank sponsors for the bulb plantings along the trail and at Tapleyville Ice Cream for anyone wishing to have a treat. Learn how the Navy helped the North win the Civil War in a presenation by Charles Veit, president of the Navy and Marine Historical Association, tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Smith Barn, 38 Felton St., Peabody. Veit will talk about the importance of the Navy's contributions, including the First Battle of Shiloh, The Great Navy Cattle Drive and the Engagement at Deloges Bluff.
