Take a hike

A First Day Hike will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Bradley Palmer State Park in Topsfield. The Department of Conservation and Recreation will lead a free, brisk hike through the park. Afterward, Willowdale Estates will host a reception for hikers. Hikers should meet at the park headquarters on Asbury Street. First Day Hikes are a 20-year-old tradition in Massachusetts’ state parks, offering a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the new year with friends and family. Last year, for the first time, all 50 state park systems sponsored a First Day Hike in more than 400 parks nationwide. For more information, visit www.mass.gov/dcr.
