---- — Hollywood visits Topsfield

The public is invited to visit Hollywood and learn how it evolved from a once-barren land to a glamorous and scandal-ridden city, all the while sitting in the Gould Barn this Sunday. As part of its monthly lecture series, the Topsfield Historical Society will feature one of its own, Topsfield resident and society Vice President Anne Barrett, presenting “Hollywood: Wild West to Movie Mecca.” Barrett, a storyteller and actor, will discuss the exciting years of early moviemaking and the inventions and films that started it all. Attendees will learn how Hollywood transformed from a desolate landscape to a prosperous, conservative community, and then to a glittering movie mecca full of glamorous stars and scandalous behavior. Barrett will also share 19th- and early 20th-century film clips that give attendees a front-row seat in seeing the dawn of the movie industry and all it meant to the first moviegoers. The event, which starts at 3 p.m. at 1 Howlett St., Topsfield, is free and includes refreshments. For more information, contact Beth Johnson at bjohnson@etjohnson.com or 978-887-9137.
