Description: “It was the morning after the small snowstorm we had on Dec. 30. There was a slight coating of snow on my bare burning bushes. When I looked out the kitchen window, the image of the bright red cardinal was so prominent against the snow, and the white fence contrasted with the small red berries still on the bushes. I just grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots. It was as if he was actually posing for me!

“The red color of the cardinal zeroes our attention on the bird, even though it is so small in comparison to the large mass of snow-covered branches. Placing the bird near the center directs us to zoom in on the bird. Texture is created in the spattering of light and dark patterns of the branches, snow and the background.
