Salem Theatre Company's production of “Shining City,” written by Conor McPherson, will run tonight at 7:30 p.m., at the STC Theater, located at 90 Lafayette St., Salem. Set in Dublin, the show presents a haunting exploration of human frailties, specifically those of a guilt-ridden man who reaches out to a therapist after seeing the ghost of his recently-deceased wife. Dr. Jennifer Bryson, the director of the Islam and Civil Society Project at The Witherspoon Institute, and a visiting research professor in the U.S. Army War College's Institute for Peacekeeping and Stability Operations, will present a lecture titled “Religious Freedom and the Arab Spring,” at 4:30 p.m., in Ken Olsen Science Center's MacDonald Auditorium, located on the Gordon College campus, 255 Grapevine Road, Wenham. Bryson also served as an interrogator at the Guantanamo Bay detention camps, and has written in favor of human, rapport-building interrogation and against the use of torture.
