Description: “A semipalmated sandpiper taken along the shoreline at Sandy Point, Plum Island. I was walking along the water when he happened to be right beside my feet. The seaweed adds to the composition and contributes a nice splash of color and texture.
“I am an avid bird-watcher who enjoys capturing birds within their environment. I like to highlight color and texture through most of my photos. I also like to capture the rays of the sun whether it be through breaking clouds or within the tree lines.”
Camera info: Nikon D3100, focal length 300 mm
PHOTO STAFF CRITIQUE
“Warm brown colors and the various elements of the image work together to create a photograph that is more than a close-up of the sandpiper. Similar brown tones throughout the image are very noticeable. The main subject is surrounded by seaweed on the shoreline, which places the bird in its environment.”
