Dr. Reuven Hazan, an Israeli political scientist and faculty member of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will present “Behind the Headlines in Israeli Politics” at 7:30 p.m. at Cohen Hillel Academy, 6 Community Road, Marblehead. The North Shore Horticultural Society will hold its annual potluck supper at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting and presentation at 7:30 p.m., at the American Legion Hall, 14 Church St., Manchester. All are welcome to both the supper and the meeting. The evening features a presentation by Brigitte Fortin, secretary of the Massachusetts Orchid Society, called “Orchids For Home Windowsill Gardens,” which will discuss the orchid family, how to select the right orchid, potting medium and growing conditions. Fortin’s presentation includes photographs of her own collection, flowering plants from her home and a potting demonstration. Attendees with distressed orchids may bring them to the event to receive advice from Fortin. To attend the potluck, bring a healthy appetizer, main course, salad, bread, vegetable, or dessert.
