Name: Matthew Malewicki

Hometown: Peabody

Description: “I shot this in downtown Salem from the top of the parking garage on Derby Street, facing toward Pickering Wharf. I’m a 19-year-old student at North Shore Community College and soon transferring to Salem State University. I took photography in high school and fell in love with it. I typically shoot landscapes and light-beam pictures with low shutter speeds.”

Camera info: Nikon D90. Shutter speed 228/10 second. Aperture F/32.0. Focal length 70 mm. ISO 800.

PHOTO STAFF CRITIQUE

“The photographer uses the proper exposure length to illuminate the buildings and cars lining the street. The narrow aperture and long exposure allow the streetlights to star and captures long streaks of lights from passing cars. The warm glow of the lights down on the street fade away into the distance, following the curve of the road and the streaks of light receding in the distance.”
