It’s first come, first served at the Peabody Institute Library book sale, which will be held next Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“In a lot of cases, library book sales will have a special night where the Friends get first pick of the best books,” said Alysa Hayden, a member of the Friends of the Peabody Institute Library. “We don’t do that.”
Hayden has been a member of the friends group for a year but attended many past book sales at the Main Library at 82 Main St. in Peabody, where she was often surprised by the deals.
“At the farmers market, we had fantastic coffee-table books for $2,” she said.
Hayden can’t guarantee what books in particular will be available at next Saturday’s sale but said the selection will include fiction and nonfiction, hardcovers, and both trade and mass-market paperbacks, ranging in price from 50 cents to $2.
The Friends will also sell gift items, bearing the library insignia, which include mugs, bags and hats, flash drives, and water bottles.
“Everything is under $15, and most items are $10,” Hayden said. “All are very lightweight and great to mail for holidays. I’m actually mailing some to family in Australia.”
For something to sip or nibble on while browsing, visitors to the sale can also buy coffee by the cup or pumpkin cinnamon rolls.
The sale will be held in the Trustees Room on the first floor.
