Mending bikes for a cause

Bring any old and outgrown bikes, trikes and cycling accessories to Bicycle Beverly Committee’s bike drive on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Ellis Square, located at the corner of Cabot and Church streets in Beverly. Bikes of all sizes along with extra wheels, tires, tubes and other components will be collected. Four parking spots along Briscoe and Essex streets will be vacant to allow for easy drop-offs. Music, information on upcoming events and a bike-powered blender demonstration will add to the festivities. The event marks the committee’s second year partnering with Bikes Not Bombs, a Boston-based nonprofit that annually collects unused bikes, fixes them up, then redistributes them to families who need them or to partner communities in developing countries. For more information, email tbalf@comcast.net, or call 978-927-4599 to have bikes picked up.
