As participants of Combined Jewish Philanthropies’ Leadership Development Institute, members of Swampscott’s Congregation Shirat Hayam and congregants of three other Boston-area synagogues joined together to learn tools and strategies necessary for managing change. The intensive seven-session workshop focused on developing the leadership skills of lay leaders and professionals in Jewish institutions, and, using Jewish education as the context, participants explored the commonalities and the values of their organizations. Those who attended from the North Shore are Andy Caplan, chairman of CSH’s Board of Directors; Jennifer Bookman; Mikaela Levine; Joe Selby; and CSH staff members Rabbi Baruch HaLevi, Cantor Elana Rozenfeld, Education Director Jed Filler and Chief Executive Officer Bob Krentzman. The LDI was funded in part by the Jewish Federation of the North Shore.
