Bites for Bates, a community-wide Food Fest sponsored by Bates Elementary School Council, takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Salem Knights of Columbus, 94 Washington Square, Salem. The $20 ticket gets you samples of a variety of foods from local restaurants, and the event also features raffles and a silent auction. For advance tickets, email bethlewandowski@salemk12.org.

Local poet and creative writing professor J.D. Scrimgeour will lead a workshop prior to Open Mike Night at the Peabody Institute Library, 15 Sylvan St., Danvers, starting at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in performing music, poetry or prose is welcome to participate in the open mike portion of the event, which begins at 7 p.m. Register by calling 978-774-0554.
