The Salem News

---- — Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are The Salem News' Best Bets:

Get into spring cleaning today by helping prepare the Salem Athenaeum for a new season of gatherings, activities and quiet afternoons. Bring gloves, snippers and other garden tools if you have them — there's plenty to do, even if your thumb isn't green. Clean-up takes place from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Athenaeum, 337 Essex St., Salem. For more information, contact Jean Marie at 978-744-2540 or info@salemathenaeum.net.

When there's a coin shortage, what do you do? You find other ways to exchange money. Learn how they did it during the Civil War from historian Dana Zaiser today at 11 a.m. at the Peabody Institute Library's Danvers Branch, 15 Sylvan St., Danvers. Register at danverslibrary.org or by calling 978-774-0554.

Have a laugh — or three — tonight at 7 during the 1728 Club's Comedy Night at Angelica's, 49 S. Main St., Middleton. The club, formerly Kiwanis Club, presents three comedians, a silent auction and light refreshments. Tickets are $25, with proceeds benefiting Middleton groups. For more information, call 978-774-0646 or email flint3@comcast.net.

Tomorrow, visit with more than 50 local vendors at the Trustees of Reservations' fourth annual Sustainable Seaside Wedding Show, from noon to 3 p.m. at Castle Hill on Crane Estate, 290 Argilla Road, Ipswich.
