Golf, art clubs team up for annual show

The Salem News

---- — GLOUCESTER — For the seventh year, the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts Cape Ann presents its annual partnership with Bass Rocks Golf Club for its Art Loan Program. This year’s show presents 36 artworks by 23 artists at the opening reception Wednesday.

At the free opening, the public may view the works and meet the artists.

This program provides an opportunity for seARTS members to market their art work. Since the program’s inception, artists have sold more than $13,000 worth of art off the walls. The 2014 show includes a balance of returning and new artists, some which present new genres of work. A portion of the sales benefit the non-profit seARTS.

Among the new artists are Lisa Froment, Gail Gang, Susan Guest MacPhail, Christine Molitor Johnson, Sinikka Nogelo, Ron Pruett, Deb Schradieck, Ruth Schneider, Kathryn Tuck and Mary Ann Wenniger.

Returning artists are Katherine Coakley, Anne Cowman, Rob Diebboll, Nancy Dudley, Lynda Goldberg, Christian Gotfredson of Wenham, John Thomas Grant, Mary Forte Hayes, Judith Monteferrante, Michael Oleksiw of Beverly, David Piemonte, Patricia Yarborough Reed and Marilyn Swift.

This year’s show was juried by Linda Holt, Law Hamilton and Nancy Strisik. The jury will award honors that will be announced at the event. The awards are sponsored by Nor’East Frameworks of Manchester, and House of the Raven and Cape Ann Giclée, both of Gloucester.

A panel of local art gallery owners and directors will answer questions of general interest posed by moderator Leonie Bradbury, director and curator of Montserrat College of Art Galleries. She serves as chairwoman of the New England Museum Association Professional Affiliates Group: College and University Museums and Galleries and as the New England representative on the board of directors of the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries.

The discussion will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience. Panelists are Belinda Recio, owner of True North Gallery in South Hamilton; Alison Rowell, gallery director of Central Street Gallery in Manchester-by-the-Sea; Matthew Swift, owner of Trident Gallery in Gloucester; and Sharon Pablo, co-owner of State of the Art Galleries in Gloucester.
