Montserrat College of Art professors Adam Miller and Blyth Hazen present “Word Bubbles and Thought Balloons: The Graphic Novel as an Art Form” this evening at 7, at the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, 14 Union St., South Hamilton. Miller and Hazen will provide a brief history of comics and graphic novels, followed by a survey of the artistic styles and sub-genres that make up the growing and evolving art and literary form. They'll end the program by sharing examples of their work and processes from their own studios, followed by a question-and-answer session on how to develop a graphic novel from idea to finished product. Award-winning author Joan Wickersham, whose most recent book is The News from Spain: Seven Variations on a Love Story, will speak tonight at 7:30 as part of Salem State University’s Writers Series. Wickersham's talk takes place at the university's Ellison Campus Center at 352 Lafayette St. Admission is free and open to the public.
