You don't have to hit the runways in New York, L.A., or Europe for that matter to see the latest fashions. In fact, tonight, they'll be right in your own backyard. Support the Visual Arts and Family and Consumer Science students at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School from 6 to 9 p.m. as they present the annual Student Art and Fashion Show. The free event will feature an opening reception for teachers, students, parents and the public; an awards ceremony at 6:45 p.m. and a fashion show in the main second-floor hallway at 7:15 p.m. PVMHS is at 485 Lowell St., Peabody. Learn more about marine life of the North Atlantic from a man who has been documenting it for more than 30 years. Author, photographer and guide Andrew Martinez will present his photographs tonight from 7 to 8 at Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, 14 Union St., Hamilton. Among his photo assignments, Martinez has traveled to Fiji, Bonaire and Cape Cod under sponsorship from National Geographic World Magazine. For more information, visit

Does a rose by any other name really smell as sweet? Find out from "The Rose Man" himself, Dr. Erwin Ehrenreich, in a lecture at 7 p.m. at Beverly Public Library, 32 Essex St., Beverly. Friendly Garden Club hosts Ehrenreich, who talk about rose history, classification, care and a year in the rose garden from spring pruning to winter protection. The lecture will include a photo slideshow of roses, some of which are from his own rose garden.
