How to shoot a landscape
Teach that digital camera some new tricks at "The Wonders of the Landscape," a photography workshop at Peabody Essex Museum tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Erik Johnson will talk about landscape photography and the current exhibit "Imprints: Photographs by Mark Ruwedel," then participants will photograph areas where Salem's urban space "spills into a landscape" and participate in a group critique of their new images. You don't have to bring a digital camera, but that will allow your work to be critiqued. Cost is $55 for members, $65 for nonmembers, and includes a box lunch. Call 978-745-9500, ext. 3011.
Summer book sale
Stock up on summer reading at the Friends of the Ipswich Library book sale tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. on the Heard House Museum lawn, 54 S. Main St., Ipswich.
History for kids

They can choose their own Civil War hero or heroine and spend the week experiencing encampment life, marches, drills, bartering for supplies and participating in historical re-enactments. For ages 8 to 13. Fee is $235 for members, $250 for nonmembers; some scholarships are available. Visit www.wenhammuseum.org for registration forms, or call 978-468-2377, ext. 118.
