Helping horses help people

The staff at Salon Bogart in Manchester is hosting "Hot to Trot," a dance benefit for Wind-rush Farm in Boxford, which offers therapeutic equitation for the disabled. Starting at 7 tonight, with music by the World Premier Band, at the American Legion Hall, 14 Church St. in Manchester, tickets are $40 per person at Salon Bogart, 4A Summer St., Manchester, or at 978-525-3221.

FOOD DRIVE. Sen. Fred Berry is holding a food drive and challenges the community to fill the six largest food pantries in the Second Essex Senate District. Donations will be collected Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5 Hutchinson Drive in Danvers, in the parking area next to Hollywood Hits. Of particular need are nonperishable food items (baked beans, rice, canned soup, tuna and veggies, peanut butter, cereal, pasta sauce, and macaroni and cheese), toiletry items, and child and baby care products. The event will include games and entertainment for children, and contributors are eligible for a free raffle ticket.

REYCYCLE FOR THE ARTS YARD SALE. Saturday, Oct. 24, 8 a.m. to noon, Peabody High School cafeteria, 485 Lowell St., Peabody. All kinds of items find a new use and second life at fundraiser to replace stage curtains for performing arts department at Peabody High School. 978-531-0059.

FLIGHT OF FASHION. THE DEVIL'S CHASE. A 6.66-mile run at 8 a.m. at Salem Willows Park on Saturday, Oct. 31, to benefit the Plummer Home Scholarships, Salem Youth Programs, and the Steven O'Grady Foundation. Cash prize to the top three "devil" runners in the male and female race categories, as well as to racers with the best devil costumes.   • North Shore religion news in brief The Gordon College Department of Political Science and Christians in Political Science will host the Christians in Political Science Conference (CPS) on Thursday, May 31, through Saturday, June 2, on the college's campus, 255 Grapevine Road, Wenham.
