Boys basketball playoffs are in full swing. The 15-5 Salem High boys basketball team begins its quest for a Division 2 state championship when it hosts Winchester tonight at Salem High in a Division 2 North first round matchup. Game time is 7 p.m. Salem High is at 77 Willson St.

At the same time, Beverly High (14-6) will meet Northeastern Conference rival Lynn Classical for the third time this season in boys basketball as it hosts a Division 2 North first round state tournament game at the Henry Cabot Lodge Fieldhouse at Beverly High School, 100 Sohier Road.

If you prefer the ice over a parquet floor, the eighth-seeded Danvers High hockey team takes on No. 9 Somerville in a battle of teams with identical 10-6-4 records in the first round of the highly competitive Division 2 North state tournament. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Salem State's Rockett Arena, 225 Canal St., Salem.

If food is more your fare, head to E.J. Cabot's, 282 Cabot St., Beverly, for a guest chef evening with Brendan Cronin, Author of “Cheffin’: From Potatoes to Caviar,” a memoir of the Irish chef’s rise through the ranks of kitchens around the world. From 5:30 to 10 p.m., chat with Cronin about his book and sample his recipes, prepared by staff. Regular menu will also be available.
