Get acquainted with the Pickering House in Salem when Jeff Swartz, a Salem State University graduate and docent of the Pickering Foundation, presents “The Pickering House You Never Knew.” Swartz will discuss the early origins of the Pickering family; their ancestral home at 18 Broad St.; the noteworthy residents who lived there; and their contributions to both Salem and American history. The program is part of Salem Athenaeum's Summer Salon Series and takes place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Athenaeum garden, located at 337 Essex St. in Salem. The second-to-last performance of Purple Sun Productions' presentation of Rick Lewis' “The Taffetas” takes place this evening at 7:30 in the Salem Theatre Company Theater, located at 90 Lafayette St. in Salem. The all-girl music romp through the '50s is directed by Ariane Grossi with musical direction by Evelyn Mann and choreography by Jim Dawidowicz.
