Best Bets for Tuesday, Sept. 10

Looking for something to do today? Here are The Salem News' Best Bets:

Soprano Ruth Harcovitz will precent "The Sunny Skies of Italy," a free concert at the Peabody Senior Center, this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., followed by the concert. Walk along Broadway, Beverly’s “showplace” 19th-century downtown street, with local historian and author Ed Brown as he leads you on a sunset sidewalk history walk starting at 6 p.m. The walk departs from the corner of Cabot Street and Broadway and travels to 18 former mansions of prominent men and women that still stand on Broadway. The walk is sponsored by the Beverly Historical Society; there is a suggested $5 donation per person to benefit the society (walk is free to children and society members). Salem voters: Take advantage of tonight's candidates forums to help form your opinions befort the Sept. 17 preliminary election. At 6:30 p.m., candidates for Ward 6 councilor will answer audience-submitted questions at the Moose Lodge, 50 Grove St., Salem. George Ahmed will moderate. For more information, visit mackparkneighborhoodassociation.wordpress.com. And at 7 p.m., the Salem Education Foundation presents a forum featuring School Committee candidates in an effort to raise awareness and interest. North of Boston Media Group Publisher Karen Andreas will moderate the forum, which takes place at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem, 13 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem.
