Best Bets for Monday, Feb. 18

The Peabody Essex Museum is celebrating February vacation week with a line-up of events that focus on the many ways people play around the world. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visit the museum at East India Square in Salem to play giant games and games from different cultures; solve abstract magnetic puzzles from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; navigate an indoor hopscotch design from 1 to 4 p.m.; enjoy a yo-yo show from 11 to 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.; and view a screening of “Alice in Wonderland” from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. The events are included in museum admission. Advance registration is required and can be done by calling 978-745-9500, ext. 3011, or visiting pem.org/calendar.

Explore the physics of fun by building and testing a marble coaster. Learn about the forces of gravity and kinetic and potential energy, then put them to the test by attempting to include a loop or jump in the marble coaster design. Attendees, ages 7 to 10, will build marble coasters using everyday household materials. The event runs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Ipswich YMCA, located at 110 County Road.
