Man robbed, shot in the head with pellet gun

PEABODY — A man walking near downtown Peabody yesterday was robbed and shot in the head with a pellet gun, according to police.

The victim was taken by Action Ambulance to Salem Hospital because the pellet was still lodged in his head, police Lt. John McCorry said.

The robbery was one of two in Peabody yesterday.

At noon, Eaton Apothecary on Centennial Drive was the victim of an armed robbery. The robber made off with an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs, McCorry said.

The robberies do not appear to be related, based on the descriptions of the robbers.

In last night's robbery, the 19-year-old victim told police two Hispanic men dressed in black inside a dark-colored vehicle pulled up to him as he walked down Bowditch Street and shot him in the head.

The man fled around the corner to A-Plus Market on Central Street, where he asked someone to call police.

McCorry said he did not know if the robbers made off with anything.

"They haven't been able to interview him because he's still at the hospital," McCorry said.

Police are also investigating the earlier robbery.

At Eaton Apothecary, police said a stolen gray 2003 Ford Mustang was used as the getaway car. Police said the Mustang was stolen from the Lynn post office.

Staff at the apothecary described the robber as a white man, 5-feet-6, wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, khaki pants and white sneakers.

A silver handgun was shown during the robbery. Police said the man may have fled toward Route 128.

Police alerted area departments on the robbers' and vehicles' descriptions.
